Join artist Saumitra Chandratreya as he explores his artistic practice through a visual lecture. Works from Chandratreya’s Urban Sanctuary series of cyanotypes are included in the group exhibition Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration, and this talk will discuss the artist’s practice holistically.

About Saumitra Chandratreya
Born in Mumbai, Saumitra Chandratreya is a visual artist who lives in Chicago, IL, and St. Petersburg, FL. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), IL, in 2017 with a Master of Design in Fashion, Body, and Garment. He has a BFA in Textile Design from the Srishti Institute of Art, Design, and Technology in Bengaluru, India. Chandratreya was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from St. Petersburg Arts Alliance in 2020, an Emerging Artist Grant from Creative Pinellas in 2018, and he was an emerging artist at the 2019 Gasparilla Festival of Arts in Tampa, FL. He exhibited at the Union League Club of Chicago as a finalist for Luminarts Cultural Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship. Chandratreya was awarded the Shapiro Graduate research fellowship at SAIC and was nominated by his department for the James Nelson Raymond Fellowship. His works are collected internationally, and his art has been written about extensively in local media. He has taught at the Morean Arts Center and the Pruitt Arts Education Center on the ArtsXchange campus in St. Petersburg, FL. Chandratreya is an active member of the 24-Hands Printmaking collective and Florida Printmakers Society. He is a 2023-24 full-time Visiting Artist at SAIC.
